ISAAC BAWA MAKES PROFESSIONAL DEBUT
The USL Championship kicked off today after intense preseason camp, Isaac Bawa’s dream of being a professional player became a reality. A little over 2 years ago, Isaac was in Ghana, with no hope of how his dream will become a reality, a talented teenager living in underprivileged community in the northern part of Ghana.
Isaac’s friend told him about an organization that sets up free showcases in different countries providing opportunities for talented underprivileged teenagers just like Isaac a platform to turn their dreams to reality. Isaac reluctantly agreed to show up, he had been to many showcases and there’s always a hidden agenda (usually a financial commitment). An hopeful Isaac with nothing to lose except from his time showed up to the showcase, displayed his talent and after 15 minutes of playing, G69 Founder, Timothy, told him his passion, hustle and talent is going to earn him an opportunity to turn his dream to reality.
G69 Foundation partners with Phoenix Academy ( a charity in Ghana) to provide these opportunities for talented underprivileged teenagers who do not have the opportunity and accessibility to grass root programs. Through G69 Isaac was able to attend a University in California (Azusa Pacific University) as a Business Major whilst competing for the Soccer team.
During his time with Azusa Pacific, Isaac was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American first team (2019) and second team (2018) and D2CCA All-American first team (2019) and third team (2018) while being named the PacWest Player of the Year (2019), PacWest Freshman and PacWest Defender of the Year (2018).
Today, March 8th, Isaac’s dream became reality, after signing with LA Galaxy organization on the 31st of January 2020, Isaac is now set to start his first game as a professional soccer player. The hard work has paid off but the journey has just begun. He gives the glory to God, credits G69 Foundation and Phoenix Academy for providing these platform to achieve his dream. Isaac will also finish his degree whilst playing professionally as he believes it will serve him well in the future.
