"Louisville City is a very good team. They put pressure, they make it very difficult for you to play," said head coach John Michael Hayden. "We hit a cross bar, we had a number of opportunities that I thought we should've put away. For us, its growth. We learn from it and take a look at it. Overall, there are definitely some positives."

Through the first half, Louisville City held UofL to one shot through the first 35 minutes as they controlled possession. After a foul was called in the box, sophomore forward Pedro Fonseca stepped up and sent his shot past LouCity goalkeeper Tim Dobrowolski in the 37th minute to give the Cardinals the one-goal advantage heading into the break.
