COSTA WINS AAC HONORS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK
SMU midfielder Gabriel Costa has won the AAC offensive player of the week honor for the second straight week after tallying four points last week, it was announced Monday by the league office.
With Costa's honor on Monday, it marks the third straight week that a Mustang has taken home the accolade; the first time SMU has accomplished that feat since 2015.
The Rio de Janeiro native repeats after assisting the final goal of No. 4 SMU's 3-0 win over Central Arkansas on Tuesday. On Sunday night, vs. No. 11 UCF, Costa tallied an assist on the Mustangs' first goal to pull them within one in the second half. Later in the match, he would draw and convert a penalty to bring the game even in the 84th minute, preserving SMU's undefeated start.
Costa has recorded 13 points in just seven matches for the Mustangs, who improved to 9-0-1 with the draw vs. UCF. He is the NCAA career active leader in points per game, averaging 2.0 points over 27 matches in his career.
